huh?
So the old simian reads a certain small business blog quite regularly.
The guy is quite openly describing his experiences regarding his drop-shipping site and other ventures and has recently begun a series of posts explaining changes and improvements he is making to his shop in order to improve sales.
Some of the commenters pipe up and want to hear about SEO.
- cue cheap eastern kung fu movie music -
The blind ape enters the scene.
Writing the guy an email asking if he would like a guest post by yours truly about various SEO improvements that could be done.
He denies the offer politely.
OK. No bad feelings here, just a short WTF?
He denies a complete SEO Analysis, directions for improvement AND content for his blog at no cost other than a backlink in the article?
Can anyone explain this? Because this sight impaired old ape sure can’t.

he probably does not want to let someone have access to all his internals, I know when I let programmers touch my physical business entities websites I get pretty touchy. don’t take it personally, but as a business owner myself I would be wary of the free lunch.
You seem to have no idea about the analysis I was proposing.
There is no “touching the code” involved.
I offered a look at the files from the outside. Taking the view on a site that a search engine would have.
Page structure, content, link structure, etc.. are all available from the outside.
Following would be recommendations on what to change to make the page more readable to search engines and the visitors.

The other day I suffered a similar case. In Spain there is a shop with a good name and when I looked if the .COM was registered I noticed that it was free.
So I went to the shop and offered them a website. They said that they already have a blog (!). Anyway, I advised them to register the domain for about 8$ / year, but they didn’t listened to me.
The blog is a chaotic free blog horribly designed and with no info.
Regards and keep on the good work ;).
well then, I’m an ass and the blogger your referring to is a useless twat waffle.
Hey Alex.
My apologies if my answer came across as being a bit strong, I never wanted to insult you.
And yes, I would also feel weird having Joe random programmer look at the inside code of a real business.
Bottom line here is that as a SEO, you don’t have to look at a a side from the inside, the outside view is just fine.
fgmunoz, Thanks for your kind words.
This kind of reaction makes me worry about the picture that business owners have of the “internet business” and “those SEO people”.
Maybe we need to work on communication a bit more.
Hello again;
A guess is that many people regard SEO as inherently shady. We all know the big G does.
I know of an intelligent but ignorant woman who “knows” that Google is the official internet, and that there are other “bad sites” on the internet. She hits the “back” button when ever she doesn’t see “Ads by Google” on the site, having narrowly escaped once again.
So if G is Good, then anything else is Bad. And something for nothing is always suspicious. Just let it go, man. People’s ignorance is boundless.
Good point.
That is what I meant when I said that we need to work on communicating better.
As to “let it go” - I have.
I am rather sitting here with a little dumbfounded, yet amused expression on my face.
Emp If you have a few minutes to puzzle about something SEO related on the site I just listed on this form, send me an email. This isn’t the place for details but I could use some help.
For those asking me for help in SEO.
This post was not an offer for free SEO analysis / help.
I am active at the wickedfire.com forum, where I have been known to help newbies with their SEO needs.
The offer I made to the blog owner mentioned in the post was based on a reciprocal linking that I would have liked very much.

fgmunoz: Register the domain yourself, then put up a nice website about them that sells their competitors products (whoever will pay you the biggest commission, of course
and promote it anywhere surfers would look.
If they see it and want to buy it, extort as much money out of them as you can (legally) before letting them have it (unless it’s making enough for you to want to keep it). They’ll almost certainly not know how to complain to ICANN and get it away from you.
